Three excellent Saturday evenings in November when many of the parents remembered Huw in a positive way
There were 3 very well supported events in November. The Hepworth under 15s annual ball was enjoyed by 90 people and raising £2,500 for the Trust; 60 people attended the wine tasting event at the Tennis Club which raised £1,300; and the Holme Valley Business Association Ball on 12th November was enjoyed by 90 people – the total raised will be finalised soon. Huw had so many happy times at Holmfirth High School and learnt a lot there as a person as well as from lessons. A non uniform day was held at school on 16th November to remember Huw and it also raised £1,000 for Huw’s Trust to help brain injured people. Thank you so much to everyone who took part and for their donations to take part in the non uniform day; it means a lot coming from a place where he was so happy.
Many of Huw’s friends wore Thatch 2 T shirts or Cardiff City shirts to rememer Huw. His friends at school as well as his family miss Huw, Thatch, Big Man so much and will remember him with love forever xx ♥♥
It takes a lot of courage when you’re 15 to stand up and talk to 5 assemblies in school about something that is very important to you and also very sad. And it takes commitment (and something else special) to bake over 200 cakes and to organise a cake sale for over twice that many – and make £500 for charity. But that’s exactly what twin sisters Kate and Lauren have done this week in Chandlers Ford, Hampshire.
Congratulations to Andy & Steve who finished the marathon at Palma, Mallorca in personal best times!
Congratulations to Steve Taylor and Andy Ackroyd who completed the Palma (Mallorca) Marathon on October 16th. They both finished in under 4 hours achieving personal bests eventhough it was 27 degrees! Here is a pic of the 2 proud Yorkshire guys with their medals at the end.
Here are some pics and some feedback from the cycling event organised by the Cullaighs on Saturday 24th Sept. A good group turned up and they all had a really good day and raised some money for Huw’s trust. Most of all it was something that the Cullaighs wanted to do to remember Huw in a positive way – thank you and well done everybody.
Here is some feedback on Andy Thompson’s & Liz Blezard’s successful completion of the Great North Run
Andy Thompson and Liz Blezard both finished the Great North Run on Sunday 18th September 2011. Big Andy finished in 2 hours 8 minutes, just 18 months after breaking his leg and Liz finished in just over 2 hours (we’re not sure of the exact time yet.) They were spurred on by Huw and both raised a lot for his Trust. Congratulations on a great achievement to both of them. Here’s a bit more info about their day along with links to some photos.
Sponsored walk last Sunday – they avoided the showers but maybe this was helped by visits to the pubs?
A sponsored walk took place around the Valley last Sunday. The 12 people who took part are Molly Jowett, George Jowett, Andy Jowett, Karen Jowett, Amanda Hellawell, Graeme Hoyle, Emma Louise Hardwick, Julie Aston, Philip Woods, Ian Hoyle, Dave Hardwick and Aidan Weir.
Coast to coast part 2: Huw was also in our hearts when we were laughing, enjoying the great company & getting spooked out in a weird village
As promised here is the eagerly awaited (I hope) Part 2 of the report back from the Coast to Coast cycle. I hope Huw was laughing with us as we pushed ourselves, laughed, rested and messed about for 3 or 4 days. Oh and there was a period where we were a bit mistifyed during our overnight stay on Saturday night!
