Nick Fitzpatrick: Tennis Lessons

by jct01

Huw loved Tennis.  He started when he was a little toddler at Thongsbridge Tennis Club having junior lessons.

Some years later, Huw was star struck when he got the opportunity to have a short rally with Martina Hingis at the Club – pleased to say, he did himself very proud!

When he was older, he started having 1:1 lessons with Nick at Thongsbridge Tennis Club, who had this to say: The things we talked about most were football, especially banter between Cardiff and Leeds, our favourite footie teams.  Being a Thatcher, I always asked him how his Aunty Margaret was, as in ex- prime minister.  Just seemed to make us both laugh.  Whenever we worked on his serve, I would have to bowl him a few so he could show me his cricket shots first.  The best most recent distraction was the obsession with the football goals around the back.  This consisted of launching balls from the basket and trying to hit the crossbar on the goals at the other end.  I said to him – if your mum walks around the corner, we’ll both get the sack, to which be both laughed.  As we never hit the cross bar, no-one won the pound challenge.  Huw’s idea of a warm up on his early saturday morning was a big yawn.  We got on so well, it was always a pleasure”.
