“From Cardiff With Love” – 200 mile bike ride in 24 hrs: Steve Thatcher – 1st July 2011

On Friday 1^st July 2011, Steve Thatcher will be cycling the 200 miles from the Cardiff City Stadium to “Sands” in Holmfirth – in just one day!  Steve is Huw’s uncle.  While Steve has done some long distance rides in the past, “From Cardiff With Love” is taking it to a new level.  If (when) Steve completes the ride (on the ‘Prancing Horse’ pictured here,) it will be an incredible feat.   And Huw’s 13 year old cousin is planning to do a part of the ride with Steve – an amazing effort from Doug aiming to do 100 miles-plus in a day at the age of 13.   Doug’s bike is ‘the yellow peril’ 🙂

• 1st training ride for Steve mid April – 25 miles at an average of 13mph
• latest ride for Doug 19th June – 84 miles at 16 mph (awesome)
• latest ride for Steve 13th June – 145 miles at 16 mph (incredible)

Former swinger and naturist (ha ha) ‘Dangerous’ Dave Stockwell has confirmed he will be Steve and Doug’s support on the day, driving his car “Bjorn”!  Thanks also to Steve Leyton who is taking the lads down to the Stadium at 3.00am in the morning in Steve’s car “Anyeta”.  Both cars and drivers are pictured among the training and other shots.

Steve and Doug are expecting to arrive at Sands at around 9.30pm on the Friday night.  Dave Brennan, Nick and a few others are planning to do the last 20 miles with Steve to keep him company.  And hopefully a few people will be around at Sands to give Steve and Doug a great welcome after a hard day.  We’ll keep the Facebook group up to date during the day with Steve and Doug’s progress and a more accurate finish time.

Steve and Doug had great relationships with Huw.  This ride is Steve’s idea and comes straight from the heart; Huw has a unique and very special place in Steve’s heart.
