Nick: Silences and respect
Huw’s friends, family, the Holmfirth community, and towns and cities beyond have shown great respect to Huw since 13th March. A minute’s silence has been held at the Huddersfield Town vs Swindon and Brighouse Town vs Scarborough fixtures, at all Huddersfield Junior Football League matches on 20th March (as reported by the Huddersfield Examiner), at the opening of the Upperthong Cricket new clubhouse on 18th April and at a range of football and hockey school fixtures in Huddersfield and Holmfirth.
And thanks to Jake Clayton, a full page article was published in the programme at the Cardiff City vs Derby County football match and a follow up item was posted on the Club’s website.
And Andrew Atkinson personally arranged for the Hepworth United team to play their last 9 fixtures in Cardiff City shirts as a mark of respect for Huw. The shirts were kindly donated by Cardiff City.
These marks of respect for Huw show how much he was loved by all those who knew him and we hope they will raise awareness of the Huw Thatcher Trust and the work it is doing to remember Huw and help brain injured people.
Although reporting on these marks of respect is a sombre thing, Huw will have wanted all the young (and older) people taking part to continue playing their sport with pride and to the best of their ability – but most of all to enjoy themselves.
