The Upperthong Cricket Club awards night : Sam Briggs is presented with the first “Huw Thatcher Pride and Passion Shield”
The Upperthong Cricket Club Huw Thatcher Pride and Passion Shield was presented for the first time on 25th September – the award was deservedly made to Sam Briggs. Maybe Huw was looking on as one of his oldest and best friends took this award with pride.
Here are some pics and some feedback from the cycling event organised by the Cullaighs on Saturday 24th Sept. A good group turned up and they all had a really good day and raised some money for Huw’s trust. Most of all it was something that the Cullaighs wanted to do to remember Huw in a positive way – thank you and well done everybody.
Here is some feedback on Andy Thompson’s & Liz Blezard’s successful completion of the Great North Run
Andy Thompson and Liz Blezard both finished the Great North Run on Sunday 18th September 2011. Big Andy finished in 2 hours 8 minutes, just 18 months after breaking his leg and Liz finished in just over 2 hours (we’re not sure of the exact time yet.) They were spurred on by Huw and both raised a lot for his Trust. Congratulations on a great achievement to both of them. Here’s a bit more info about their day along with links to some photos.
Memories of Huw as Hepworth’s season starts: Huw loved playing footie with his friends & being part of a team with lads he adored
Here are some Hepworth United photos, memories and reflections on the day when the new football season started for Huw’s team mates, now in the Under 16s. Just like the first day at school last week, the first competitive match of season is a time when Hepworth’s number 2 has been remembered with love.
The beautiful boy who’s life we were all lucky enough to share, made people smile for 15 & a half years; & he’s still making us smile & inspiring us
In a week when the summer holidays have finished, schools have gone back and when the under 16 football season is about to start, there’s been a lot of news about Huw’s Trust. News of heart warming acts along with generous and unexpected donations. A week when so many of us have missed Huw so much, has also seen some positives. Life can be like a weird mirror – the worst things can happen but some of the kindest things can be reflected back.
As the schools go back this year, there are lots of memories of Huw starting school and new school years. Huw was at very happy stages (like he always was) when he started at Upperthong Junior School in 2000 and Holmfirth High School in 2007. He was always happy at school throughout nursery, junior school and high school.
