Ben Sykes – the latest in a long list of great young people from Holmfirth & beyond to organise something to honour Huw & raise funds
We had a great night on Saturday 2nd March at the High School. Over 100 young people – friends of Huw – turning up to play Dodgeball or to help out and watch. It was something different that we hadn’t done before and involved mostly 16 and 17 year olds but also some younger people – which was lovely too. It was perfect to spend time with Huw’s friends again who continue to show such class, humour and a sense of fun – while remembering an old friend they are all so fond of. And what a sense of responsibility they have – helping out with everything, tidying up and making sure the younger participants were ok and no one got hurt.
Like every Huw event it was in a great spirit – and having run the Blackpool marathon and with a bag pack to come in a few weeks – Ben has made a great effort. He’s going to announce the total raised from all these 3 events together after the bag pack but tonight was definately a good few hundred pounds 🙂 I’ve spend quite a bit of time with Ben over the last few months what with the Blackpool run and so on – and he’s got a great sense of responsibility and of fun rolled into one – so well done Ben. And thank you to everyone who came along tonight – and to the school and especially to Maggie who came to lock up late at night! And of course well done to Greg’s team who won the competition.
This is added to the list of great contributions from Huw’s friends and family and was a lovely night. Seeing Huw’s friends together, nearly 2 years on from when we all last enjoyed his company. I can still ‘see’ Huw when I see his friends, and the respect and effort from all of them is a wonderful effort – and a tribute to Huw who would have had so much fun doing things like this with them. Endless love to you tonight as always Huw – you have amazing friends ♥♥♥
