Ben Earshaw presented with the Spirit of Huw Thatcher Award

I had the pleasure of presenting the Spirit of Huw Thatcher Award for the 2013 under 15s Hepworth United team tonight – the award was given to Ben Earnshaw and well deserved.

More than two years have passed but it remains as important as ever to remember Huw and the football award is a lovely way of doing that.

Ben was presented with the award for his contribution over a 10 year period – his commitment to the team, his contribution in training and matches, his will to win and his willingness to play in a range of positions – were all reasons for him getting the award.

Well done Ben, and it was a pleasure to present the award to another guy, younger than Huw but who knew Huw from football and cricket.  It was good to see a number of the lads tonight, at least 4 of whom had eler brothers or sisters in Huw’s year.

Ben follows in the footsteps of George Richardson and Nelson Nunez in receiving this award to remember Huw Thatcher – number 2, left foot, 6′ 1″, 12 stone, centre back, leading player, legend, loved for ever ♥♥♥
