The 3rd and final Picturedrome gig was lit up by two of Holmfirth’s best – Huw and Richard
For the 3rd and final year, 500 of us had another great night at the Picturedrome last weekend as the Huw Thatcher Trust raised funds for another local family who need support right now. This year we were able to raise funds to support Richard Ford and his family after Richard suffered a life changing stroke 12 months ago. Like Huw, Richard was heavily involved with Hepworth United Football Club and came to the first gig 2 years ago. He had tickets for the second gig, but couldn’t come as a result of what happened to him last June. So it was very appropriate that the final Huw Thatcher gig was able to support Richard, to help him buy specialist kit he now needs. Richard and his wife Jude, would both like to extend their thanks to everyone involved last weekend.
I would like to say thank you to Peter Carr at the Picturedrome for giving us permission to use the Picturedrome in July 2011, 2012 and 2013. We’ve had 3 very lively nights bringing together Huw’s friends and their families with others in the community – giving a good night out to over 500 people each time, remembering Huw and raising funds to help those who need it. Equally many thanks to Dave Brennan who has spent a lot of time in each of the last 3 years setting up these 3 fantastic nights.
Thank you too to ‘Hiding from Olive’ – a band made up of Huw’s friends and others from Holmfirth High – who opened proceedings with a serious of covers along with their own numbers. It was great to see a young emerging band with their supporters, all have a great time.
We knew what to expect from Age of Paranoia – a performance full of energy that captured the audience for 2 hours. They’ve been so supportive of the local community over the years, doing a series of charity gigs along the way and I wish them so much luck in the next few years as they continue to entertain in Huddersfield and the Holme Valley. They sold so many tickets for each gig, including this last night on 13th July. Two of their main supporters (Pat and Jean) sold over 100 tickets, and Pat paid £100 for ticket number 001 and the priveledge os joining the band on stage for a number during the evening. We all enjoyed being serenaded by Pat, but having said that I don’t think lead singer Dave, should be worrying too much!
Other ticket sellers included of course Hiding from Olive, Huw’s friends and their families and Richard’s friends and family. It was a great effort to sell 500 tickets on a busy weekend in holiday time and with lots of other local and national events – not to mention the beautiful summer weather.
Most of all thank you to everyone who supported the gig last weekend and paid for their tickets – that applies to anyone who has been in any of the 3 years. It was lovely to see friends – old and new the other night – especially a lovely group of Huw’s friends 🙂
The Picturedrome was lit up on Saturday night by 2 of Holmfirth’s best – one down here fighting back – and the other up there shining down – like he will forever ♥♥♥
