Euan Casey completes the Manchester marathon, raising over £700 and other news

Euan Casey (Carys’s boyfriend and in school with Huw and Carys) completed the Manchester marathon on 10th April – raising over £700 and completing it in 3 hrs 55 mins – finishing a marathon in under 4 hours is a fantastic achievement.What makes this even more special is that Euan chose to raise money for the Huw Thatcher Trust, and despite his final training being curtailed by a late injury, his completion of the marathon in less that 4 hours is a great effort. Here he is in action on what was a beautiful sunny day, and a massive thank you to everyone who sponsored Euan.

Thanks to Euan’s efforts, plus cake sales at my work and a number of other kind donations we have raised more than £1,100 since Christmas, and we are very grateful for this generosity and commitment.

Huw’s benches have also had improvements at Sands and Digley this spring – the ground underneath had been worn away because so many people sit at Huw’s benches.  Thank you to Yorkshire Water and to Chris Churm and his employer Marshalls for these improvements that are pictured below.

Finally, this spring we experienced the first time 13th March had fallen on a Sunday.  We think about and love Huw every day – as if it only happened yesterday. 5 years later, on the 13th March it was heartening to visit Manchester and see Carys playing hockey for the Uni in the sunshine. It felt like the sun was shining for Huw on 13th March and today on 10th April – Huw will always shine brightly in our lives – memories and love shining brightly forever.
