Kirkburton Middle School: feedback from their amazing non uniform day 17th May

by huw15

Kirkburton Middle School held an incredibly successful non-uniform day on Tuesday 17th May in aid of the Trust.  Sue Charlesworth set this up – her son Thomas Bull was a good friend of Huw’s and the Charlesworth’s were all fond of Huw.  James Charlesworth is a dedicated coach at Hepworth Under 15s and the whole family have been very moved by what happened to Huw.  They have reacted with class;  James is part of  Team Huw, Tom will be involved in some of the charity work and thanks to Sue, the staff and pupils for making the non uniform day possible in Huw’s memory.

The day at raised a fantastic total of £753.30 for the Trust.  That will make a big difference to brain injured people, taking our overall total to around £7,500.  Here is a picture from the raffle for the large jar of sweets which the boys from 7SEC worked very hard selling tickets for over two weeks. All the children were really supportive but special thanks should go to 7SEC, 6SMT and some of the girls from 8KS who generously baked delicious buns, biscuits and flapjack for a hugely popular bun sale.

Thanks also to parent Mrs Farnworth who got donations of buns and money from the Hepworth Utd U11 squad and also helped on the day.  Here is a pic of the bun sale.

Headteacher Mr Johnson spoke to the children about Huw in assembly and we also had the board on show for about  a week, in which the children took great interest.

It was lovely to see some of the young Hepworth Players who going to Kirkburton school supporting Huw by wearing their club shirts with  pride for the day, as well as Sue in her Cardiff City shirt.  Huw has some connections with Kirkburton.  He played football against Kirkburton in his age group at under 9 and 10 levels and volunteered to play just last October for Hepworth U15 B team against Kirkburton.  Huw loved to play football and took any chance to play in an extra game.  He had a great game against Kirkburton on 24th October 2010, and helped Hepworth as part of a great team effort to beat a good Kirkburton side 4-3.  Huw also played cricket against Kirkburton on a number of occasions, the latest being last season.

Thank you to everyone at Kirburton Middle School.  The pictures are lovely and you have done a great thing for Huw, his family and for brain injured people.  Respect and love from all of us.
