Bottle of whisky signed by the Prime Minister & news of lovely things to remember Huw ♥

There have been a number of interesting things this week, that show how much what happened to Huw has touched people – and are a real boost to his Trust.  One of the most eye catching is the donation of a bottle of House of Commons whisky, signed by David Cameron, but a lot more has happened this week too.

The night of a 100 hearts for Huw ♥

On Monday night / Tuesday over 100 of Huw’s friends put hearts and messages on the Huw Thatcher Trust Group page on Facebook.  It was really touching that so many of his lovely friends think about him and send him their love.  We know from everything that’s happened how much people care about Huw, and I’m sure he knows about it too.  And it means a lot when things like this happen; spontaneously doing that was lovely.  Huw has the best friends in the world.

You can join Huw’s Facebook Group by going to this link and clicking at the right place to ask to join.

And here are the 100 hearts for Huw 🙂

The Perrons : Huw’s love of life, sport and fun shone from his twinkly brown eyes

Huw (and Carys) spent many happy evenings with Emily and Grace Perrons as young children.  They had lovely times messing about in the garden, and doing what young children do.  Thank you Alan, Jane, Emily and Grace for the lovely memories of very happy childhoods – and Carys is lucky to have Grace as one of her best friends.

Free and happy playing Samba football early 2011; including some video

Huw loved the Year 10 Samba lunchtime footie organised by Mr Blezzard earlier this year and I know a lot of the other lads felt the same.  He enjoyed playing footie with his friends in the playground almost as much as a big game for Hepworth.  And that in itself says so much about about Huw – it was family and friends that counted most for him above anything else.  There is a video link below that makes it plain just how much he loved the Samba football with his friends.

A very special place to remember Huw : bench and flower tubs at Sands

Sands has always been a special place for Huw – like it has for many people who spend their childhood and teenage years in Holmfirth.  Huw first visited Sands in his pushchair and started playing their as soon as he could walk – using the play area over the bridge as a toddler and later with Carys joining him.  An early friend he played with as a toddler at Sands was Matthew Woolhouse.  Sands is a very special place and a beautiful bench engraved as shown in the pictures, and plant tubs now sit proud on a slightly raised area overlooking the park.

School’s Out : Upperthong JS parents and teachers raise £416.55 as we remember Huw’s last day at Upperthong 4 years ago

Exactly 4 years ago today (on 20th July 2007), Huw left Upperthong Junior School after 7 very happy years.  It was Carys’ 10th birthday.  Four years later, on the last day of term (on Carys’ 14th birthday) the parents and teachers at Upperthong gave up their end of year gifts and instead asked for any money that would have been spent to be given to the Huw Thatcher Trust.  We want to say a huge thank you to the pupils, parents and teachers.

Liam Mortimer : you knew when something was up and cared for everyone

With thanks to Liam Mortimer (and his Dad Neal) for the memories of Huw.  Huw’s recent time with Hepworth United saw him in a formidable central defensive partnership with Sean Brennan.  But before that in 7 a side football (and to start with in 11 side) Huw formed an equally formidable partnership with Liam Mortimer.  This partnership provided the team with a foundation for two 7 a side league wins, the 7 a side cup win and the 11 a side cup win.  Huw’s tough tackling, first touch and great left foot were matched by Liam’s fantastic reading of the game along with another great left foot!  Liam was also a good friend of Huw’s – and Jenny, Nick and Carys continue to value his friendship, caring nature and great sense of humour.
