Cardiff can’t ‘do it for Huw’

Well the Bluebirds couldn’t make it in the end.  The best team over the two legs won and good luck to Reading in the final.  I think most people around here wanted Cardiff to win for Huw, but it wasn’t to be this year (again!)

The Harris family: Huw to me stood out from the crowd

Alison Harris: My chidren Max (12) and Ella (10) talked about Huw quite a lot.  Playing up at the cricket field they would shout to me “Mum, Mum, there’s Huw!”  He always enthusiastically waved and had a smile.  When I first talked to Huw I was struck at how polite, happy and lovely he was.  He seemed to have the ability to talk to anyone of any age.  I only wish I could remember what he said to me that made me laugh so much.  He stuck out in the crowd of lads as a really great boy.

A fulfilling and moving weekend on Sat 7th and Sun 8th May – raising over £600

There have been a number of incredibly moving and sometimes desperate days over the last 8 weeks.  Today was a day that was incredibly fulfilling as well as moving.  A group of us raised £531 at the Folk Festival over the weekend of 7th and 8th May, and we want to thank the generosity of the people in Holmfirth.  But mostly we want to thank the friends (young and less young) of Huw and the rest of his family for their inventiveness and efforts over the weekend.

Will Clowes: you livened it up by starting a play fight

Yesterday (6th May) the Hepworth United and Brighouse Town 15 year olds re-played the abandonded fixture of 13th March.  It was a fantastic game, which Town edged 7-5.  Both teams played some great football, and were pleased to see Town’s big centre forward (Matt Wensley) who Huw marked in matches for 7 years, recover from a nasty looking knee injury.  Matt is a great player and sportsman in the widest sense.  Hepworth as usual played with a great spirit and as a true team.  Sean’s penalty and celebration was a highlight, in the same way that other Hepworth goal scorers have done themselves proud in recent weeks.  The stoppers and providers have done equally well and here is a happy memory from early 2010 from  Hepworth’s last line of defence;  Will Clowes the keeper who also had a great game last night.  Read more »
