Memories of Huw & some Trust news this week: he was always the main guy on the field at lunch, it was like everyone looked up to him

There are some lovely memories from Molly Jowett this week and news of a sponsored walk that her and her family and friends are organising this Sunday.  There are also memories from a year ago as Hepworth under 16s start training again, plus news of donations as the Trust total reaches an incredible £28,000 (and still rising).  Oh and Huw’s Bluebirds beat Town in a thriller infront of a group of Huw’s friends in the Carling Cup.

Sam Bellas : you will always be in mine and everyone else’s heart

One of Huw’s best friends is Sam Bellas – they first met at football when they were 6 and then became close friends at Holmfirth High.  Huw was as lucky to have friends like Sam as they were lucky to have him.  Sam is great company whether you are an adult or teenager and  is one of the cyclists taking part in the  Coast to Coast ride.  Thanks Sam for the  lovely memories.

The Perrons : Huw’s love of life, sport and fun shone from his twinkly brown eyes

Huw (and Carys) spent many happy evenings with Emily and Grace Perrons as young children.  They had lovely times messing about in the garden, and doing what young children do.  Thank you Alan, Jane, Emily and Grace for the lovely memories of very happy childhoods – and Carys is lucky to have Grace as one of her best friends.

Free and happy playing Samba football early 2011; including some video

Huw loved the Year 10 Samba lunchtime footie organised by Mr Blezzard earlier this year and I know a lot of the other lads felt the same.  He enjoyed playing footie with his friends in the playground almost as much as a big game for Hepworth.  And that in itself says so much about about Huw – it was family and friends that counted most for him above anything else.  There is a video link below that makes it plain just how much he loved the Samba football with his friends.

School’s Out : Upperthong JS parents and teachers raise £416.55 as we remember Huw’s last day at Upperthong 4 years ago

Exactly 4 years ago today (on 20th July 2007), Huw left Upperthong Junior School after 7 very happy years.  It was Carys’ 10th birthday.  Four years later, on the last day of term (on Carys’ 14th birthday) the parents and teachers at Upperthong gave up their end of year gifts and instead asked for any money that would have been spent to be given to the Huw Thatcher Trust.  We want to say a huge thank you to the pupils, parents and teachers.

Liam Mortimer : you knew when something was up and cared for everyone

With thanks to Liam Mortimer (and his Dad Neal) for the memories of Huw.  Huw’s recent time with Hepworth United saw him in a formidable central defensive partnership with Sean Brennan.  But before that in 7 a side football (and to start with in 11 side) Huw formed an equally formidable partnership with Liam Mortimer.  This partnership provided the team with a foundation for two 7 a side league wins, the 7 a side cup win and the 11 a side cup win.  Huw’s tough tackling, first touch and great left foot were matched by Liam’s fantastic reading of the game along with another great left foot!  Liam was also a good friend of Huw’s – and Jenny, Nick and Carys continue to value his friendship, caring nature and great sense of humour.

I believe, somewhere a light is shining

I just love this music – Jenny and I listened to it on the way back from Daniel Yorath House on Friday.  And Carys and me listened to it today as well.  ‘I Believe’ is by a Cardiff band (Tigertailz).  One of the band members (John Pepper) is a family friend who knew Huw and travelled from Cardiff to be with us all on 25th March.  ‘I Believe’ has become an anthem for their bass player (Pepsi Tate) who sadly passed away 4 years ago.  Nick, Jenny, Huw and Carys met Pepsi at the wedding of Huw’s Uncle (Steve) 11 years ago.  Pepsi was a talented and lovely guy – his real name is Justin Huw Smith.

‘I Believe’ is a beautiful song.  I believe somewhere that Huw’s light is still shining  – the light of another talented and beautiful guy x x x

Memories from Sam Briggs : for the 9 years I knew him he was my big brother

Sam Briggs has been a good friend of Huw’s since the early years of Junior School at Upperthong.  He has memories of coming with Huw, Carys and Nick to the glamorous surroundings of Glanford Park to see Scunthorpe vs Cardiff City!  And more so being a great friend of Huw’s.
